Swim Goggle Anti-Fog: 7 Working Tips
Why Goggles Fog
Warm air inside meets cool water outside. Temperature difference causes condensation that scatters light and blocks vision.
1. Commercial Anti-Fog Spray
Creates hydrophilic coating that spreads condensation into transparent film. Apply before each session, dry 30 seconds, rinse briefly.
2. Baby Shampoo Method
Tiny drop diluted in water creates similar effect. Apply, rub gently, rinse with pool water. Cost-effective alternative.
3. Pre-Cool Your Goggles
Dunk in pool water for 10-15 seconds before wearing. Equalizes temperature differential.
4. Avoid Touching Inner Lens
Finger oils interfere with anti-fog coatings. Handle by frame only. Clean with water stream, not wiping.
5. Check the Seal
Press goggles to eyes without strap. Should suction briefly. If they fall off, moisture will leak in.
6. Dual-Pane Lenses
Air gap between two layers reduces temperature differential. Like double-glazed windows. Worth the investment for competitive swimmers.
7. Store Properly
Rinse in clean water, air dry lenses up. Store in hard case to prevent scratches.
