Youth Baseball Safety: 8 Rules Parents Need
Pitch Count Limits
USA Baseball and Little League enforce strict pitch count rules. Ages 7-8: max 50 pitches per game. Ages 9-10: max 75. Ages 11-12: max 85.
Required Rest Days
After throwing 66+ pitches, a pitcher needs 4 days of rest. Throwing 36-65 pitches requires 2 days. Always follow these guidelines to prevent arm injuries.
Helmet Standards
All batters and base runners must wear NOCSAE-certified helmets. Check the certification stamp inside the helmet before each season.
Additional Safety Measures
- Warm up properly before every game and practice
- Hydrate consistently, especially in hot weather
- Report any arm or shoulder pain immediately
- Use age-appropriate baseballs (reduced-impact for younger players)
- Ensure dugout and field areas are clear of hazards
