Understanding the precise dimensions of a badminton court is essential for players, coaches, and facility managers. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has established exact specifications for all levels of competitive play.

Court Measurements

Overall Court Size

The full badminton court measures 13.4 meters (44 feet) in length and 6.1 meters (20 feet) in width for doubles play. For singles, the court narrows to 5.18 meters (17 feet).

Service Courts

The short service line is 1.98 meters (6 feet 6 inches) from the net. The long service line for doubles is the back boundary line.

Net Specifications

The top of the net is 1.524 meters (5 feet) high at the center and 1.55 meters at the posts.

Venue Requirements

Ceiling Height

For international competitions, the minimum ceiling height is 12 meters (39.4 feet).

Lighting

Competition venues require uniform lighting of at least 1000 lux at court level.
