Hockey Stick Flex Rating Explained
What Flex Rating Means
Flex measures pounds needed to bend the shaft one inch. Lower flex = easier bend, higher flex = stiffer shaft.
Low Flex (75-85)
Quick load and release for wrist and snap shots. Ideal for younger players, women, and smaller players. Better puck feel during stickhandling.
Mid Flex (85-95)
Versatile across shot types. Quick wrist shots plus powerful slap shots. Start with flex equal to half your body weight.
High Flex (95-110+)
Maximum slap shot power for strong players. Stores more energy for explosive release. If you cannot fully flex it, you lose power.
Beyond the Flex Number
- Shorter stick = effectively higher flex (+3-5 per inch cut)
- Low kick point: quick release
- Mid kick point: balanced
- High kick point: slap shots
